May 27, 2020 — The Board of the John Brock Community Service Award are proud to announce Dr. Ravi Patel as this year’s recipient of the prestigious John Brock Community Service Award.
Each year, the John Brock Community Service Award is bestowed on a business or community leader who has demonstrated a lifetime of exceptional service in betterment of Bakersfield and Kern County. The award’s namesake – John Brock, Sr. – was a local business icon who led the eponymous Brock’s Department store before it’s sale to Gottschalks Inc in the late eighties.
Brock was the epitome of successful businessperson turned humble and hardworking community servant. As in year’s past, our 2020 honoree – Dr. Ravi Patel – demonstrates those qualities exceptionally.
Dr. Ravi Patel is the founder of Comprehensive Blood & Cancer Center (CBCC), a multidisciplinary medical center utilizing the most advanced technology and treatments to provide care for all cancer types. CBCC is a “one-stop shop” for a patient to receive diagnostic, medical, surgical, and holistic therapies with compassion and kindness. A classic American success story, Dr. Patel immigrated to America with his wife to complete his medical training. Moving to Bakersfield in 1985 and subsequently founding CBCC with a group of young physicians. Dr. Patel has guided the growth of CBCC from a 1,200 square foot office with one employee, to a 75,000+ square foot campus employing more than 250 people. Dr. Patel’s focus on research and clinical studies has not only furthered treatments, but also ensured that Kern County residents have access to the most cutting-edge therapies.
Beyond his success in business, Dr. Patel is a generous philanthropist who has been involved in many charities for local cancer patients, including establishing CBCC Foundation for Community Wellness (FCW) and Kern County Cancer Fund (KCCF). FCW is committed to
