[KERN COUNTY, CA] - Houchin Community Blood Bank (HCBB) is calling on the community to step up and help replenish critically low blood supplies following a series of Mass Transfusion Protocol (MTP) activations in the past two weeks. To encourage donations, HCBB is launching a special Girl Scout Cookie promotion from Sunday, February 23, through Saturday, March 1.
During this time, all successful blood donors will receive one (1) free box of Girl Scout Cookies, while supplies last. A variety of flavors will be available for donors to choose from. Additionally, Girl Scouts will be present at select Houchin Donor Centers, allowing recent donors to purchase additional cookies and further support their local troops.
The recent MTP activations have significantly depleted HCBB’s active blood supply. MTPs occur when hospitals and trauma centers require large amounts of blood in emergency situations to stabilize and save lives. These unpredictable events highlight the urgent need for donors to step forward and ensure a steady blood supply for both routine medical needs and future emergencies.

Blood donors must be in good health, weigh at least 110 pounds, and be at least 16 years old with parent or guardian consent.
